So today, a friend and I packed the kids in the car and went to try out the soft play. The sessions run from 9:30-11:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays and also 10:30-12:30 on a Saturday. We spoke with a nice member of staff who advised that the layout on a Saturday is slightly different and a bit smaller, due to the other activities also running at the same time.
This morning there was tons of space for running around, a large bouncy castle area with a slide, a baby space and lots of soft equipment for jumping on. I was also pleasantly surprised to see they had some trampolines set up - the description on their website isn't comprehensive and I think they sell themselves a bit short.
We got there as it opened and were some of the first in. Lily loved it and couldn't wait to be rid of her shoes so she could go charging in. Ollie was keen to explore too, he's finally getting the hang of crawling and so enjoyed it more than he would have done a month or so ago. Still, it is definitely more fun for older babies and toddlers.
It cost £4 for children over 2 years of age and Ollie as a 'crawler' was 60p. I thought this was pretty reasonable and in keeping with other similar activities in the area. I thought it was worth it because of the trampolining as well as the space to run around but I did hear a few other Mums saying they felt it was expensive - perhaps they had more children, I can see it all adding up once you no longer have a baby and I didn't see a discount for multiple kids.
We also had a look around the rest of the centre. My friend, an ex-Zumba instructor, was impressed with the studio size and the gym facilities and I can see Lily loving the splash zone and children's pool. The climbing wall looked pretty good, but it's not really my sort of thing!
When it finished we stopped at the 'Cafe' for a coffee and some snacks. It felt like more of a coffee-shop than a proper cafe but they had some nice looking sandwiches, cakes and biscuits on offer. I imagine it would be good for a quick snack after a swimming session. Lily always gets hungry after swimming!
All in all I liked it and had a good time there this morning. The building was light and airy and so much better than the concrete, gloomy halls of the old leisure centre and if all the activities work out as good as they sound then I know we'll be spending more time there in future.
